GILBERT BEILSCHMIDT

"In higher life, we seem to drown. We hold the key, but not the crown."
This is my vindication, with a little decoration

Country: Prussia of the Teutonic Order
Human name: Gilbert Beilschmidt
Apparent age: 19
Gender: Male
Appearance: The closest all around description that Gilbert could be called is 'albino', although he isn't a true one. He does have the pale complexion, red eyes, and white-looking hair, but he can go out in daylight and not be horribly burned. He also doesn't have the normal vision problems, making the rarity of his features something that science cannot describe. Gilbert isn't the tallest nation, standing at 5"9', but isn't the shortest either. Dressed in a Prussian blue military uniform most of the time, one accessory that he never leaves out is the Iron cross, something from his beloved boss, Frederich II, a reminder back to his 'glory days'. Now days, he dresses like he used to, in a white tunic with a cross, to fit back into what he used to be, what he used to stand for, and hopefully not recreate the sins of the future.

Strengths: What are they good at? Also give a little explanation, if you will.
- Sense of duty- Gilbert, for all that it can be worth, knows what he has to do in order to get things done, but whether or not he has the ambition to do so is the question. If things get too serious, he will buckle down and get them done to the best of his ability, however it takes a lot for him to become so devoted to a cause, which have led to a lot of his bosses having chronic headaches.
- Agility- Without it, the Prussian empire wouldn't have grown so fast as it did, as he can dodge a lot of attacks as well as escape quickly as need be. On the other side, this skill allows him to attack quickly, sneaking in and out while taking what he wants like a thief. A thief with an army and immortality on his side.
- Pissing people off-Once he finds a weakness, something that annoys someone else, or something that he can use to his advantage later (blackmail is good for getting stuff), Gilbert will exploit it. Especially if he doesn't like said person very much, or thinks that if he pisses them off enough, he can goad them into doing what he wants. Even if it's a war, to go drinking for the night, or even contribute to pissing off someone that he likes even less.
- Take a hit-Whether it's from his early days of constant war and turmoil or just a skill he was born with, Gilbert has always been able to take a hit and still stand back up. Where that doesn't mean he'll always be able to get up and fight back, he can usually escape while being bombarded with blows, and if not, he'll heal and find another way out. Being able to take a few good hard ones has saved him many times, however, and it is a skill the war monger is thankful for.
- Holding his liquor-Where this is an acquired skill, he is happy to have this as it allows him to brag about something no matter what is going on. It became especially relevant in his life when Frederich made beer the official drink of Prussia, which Gilbert was very happy about. Where Germany, England, Denmark, or the Netherlands can give him a run for his money, Gilbert likes to think that he's still the top dog when it comes to drinking, and nothing can convince him otherwise.
Weaknesses: Everybody must have weaknesses, what are your character's?
- Temper- Gilbert is lucky if he can get anywhere without his anger showing, and when it does, he rarely channels the energy into doing something constructive. It has made him fight his friends more often than not, as well as lead to the eventual dissolution of his country.
- Pride-One of the seven deadly sins, something that Prussia was taught from his founding, but the one that he struggles with the most. In his mind, he is the top, even though it is not always the case, and that everything will turn out alright because he will find a way, and there was nothing anyone else can do in order to make him submit. Even when he would benefit more from it than standing on his own.
- Lack of ambition- Gilbert has a lot of 'awesome' ideas, but he lacks any will or desire to follow them if there isn't a 'good enough' reward. This leads to his bosses having to try to coax Gilbert into doing something that he had an idea for, but didn't want to do the work for, no matter how much they would have liked. This has led to many missed opportunities and open doors, but Gilbert still hasn't been able to change his hard set ways.
- Cute things- If there is one thing that Gilbert will do anything for, it's anything that he deems to be cute. Whether it be an animal, object, or other nation, once something catches his eye and deserving his undivided attention, it quickly becomes something of an obsession for him to care over, even when they can care for themselves. He gave up his empire for his brother, he gave up his time to Gilbird, and gave up his soul so the world could blame the horror of a war on him alone.
- Girls-Taught by the knights that he was to protect women, to make sure that they had no harm come to them and treated like jewels, he was horrified to find that his great childhood warrior friend, Hungary was one of the ones that he was supposed to protect when he fought her so many times and tried to continually do so. He fears that he will be looked down on if he tried to justify that she was stronger than most other women, which were supposedly frail creatures with the promise of creating life. He never really got over the fact that one could be so strong (or kick his awesome ass more than once throughout history) and deserve respect rather than humble and much more focused on living an easy life.
Fears: What do they fear?
- Losing his brother to war or rejection.
- Disappearing forever without anyone to notice that he's gone. Or even really caring that he's gone.
- Being alone, and no one wanting to find him to see if was still alive or even okay.
Personality: Loud, brash and somewhat prone to violent tendencies, Gilbert generally isn't really known as someone that is intellectual nor socially acceptable in any meaning of the terms. With his friends, he puts up a wild, crazy front that most nations and the mortals that know of him know him by, and one that he keeps up. The need to appear more awesome than anyone else is like a compulsion, to prove that he's worth something, to prove that he deserves what he has received if it's land, fame, or fortune.
However, hidden away within himself and deep in the diaries that he has kept since his founding, Gilbert protects his softer side, the one that cares deeply for others. This side of him is weak, and he doesn't like appearing weak, especially with what feels like the world watching and stalking him like a hungry wolf, looking for the weakest of the herd to pick off. Since he was created to fight wars, weaknesses were always a disadvantage and therefore something to be protected, hidden, and very few people have clawed their way to it.
One of which was his beloved brother, West, whom he would do anything for. He adores his brother and dotes on him still, calling him cute or reminding the now strong nation of embarrassing things he had done in the past, usually at social gatherings, as Gilbert likes to torture those that he holds dear, just so that he can cover his tracts to prove that he has no weak points. To prove that he is awesome in all ways, and will one day rise from the ashes again as the great, mighty Prussia.

Family: Germania, Germany (Ludwig), Austria, HRE, Hapsburg and his territories
Friends: Austria (sorta-kinda. Frienemies is a better term...), Spain, France, Gilbird, Imperial Russia, North Italy
Rivals: Hungary, Switzerland, England, Soviet Russia (Seeing as in Imperial Russia times they were on pretty good terms...)
History:Founded in 1249 by a peace treaty of all things to the Teutonic Knights, Gilbert Beilschmidt was born, and opened his eyes to a new world. Within seven years of Prussia's founding, Konigsberg (Kaliningrad) was founded, and within 50 years of his founding, German was the dominating culture as well as language. Having grown so fast, and with the Teutonic Knights guiding him, Gilbert thought that his life was going to be as long and as fruitful as the ancients, where he would just continue this build to greatness and show the world what he can do.
In the early 1300's (1324), the Pope chastised the knights that had led Prussia to his prosperity in his early years, saying that their methods were cruel and were chasing away the Pagans from Christianity, changing Prussia's primary religion to Catholicism. Prussia himself didn't care for this change, after all, who was someone from another religion trying to delegate him and his people around, but found that he couldn't fight the will of the people who sided with the Pope, and went along with it unwillingly.
In 1420, after a long battle against the Knights who rebelled against the pope, the Polish-Lithuanian forces helped rid Prussia of the Knights in the west, which also halted the east-ward expansion. Gilbert himself wasn't too pleased with this, but was happy to be rid of the Knights, as he felt the sigh of relief from his people, but this peace did not last long. In 1454, Poland's boss tried to put Prussia under Polish rule,k but this was met by outright rage by both Gilbert and the Prussian people, and in 1466, Prussia was split down the middle, with what was left of the Knights claiming Eastern Prussia while Poland was able to have the Western side. Gilbert himself wasn't all that thrilled, but was happy to finally have something that resembled peace.
In 1525, Prussia had a Duke and became a Protestant state, no longer under the watchful eye of the Catholic church. Gilbert himself liked the idea, but was too wary about him having a Duke now, as it made him more of an official country and therefore a target for those that were stronger than him. However, peace was mostly settled for him and his country, even in 1656 when he was no longer a part of Poland but instead Sweden, Gilbert not really caring as long as he was able to live his life and his people were happy. Which they were for the most part, although it was hard for them sometimes to distinguish themselves, mainly because of the lack of geographical borders or culture differences from their neighbors.
However, during the 1700's Prussia gained a lot of notice in Europe, all while Prussia was enjoying the attentions that his favorite ruler, Frederick II. Within his reign, Prussia gained freedom of the press, abolishment of torture, fought in the Seven Years War, and Frederick issued a manifesto that called for the less consumption of coffee and instead have beer as the replacement. Gilbert prospered under his rule, and was saddened in 1786 when he was at the man's deathbed, promising to never forget the man that changed his life, his country, and his people so much in such little time. However, life went on, the 1700's finishing out with Russia and himself tearing Poland apart, leaving only the central piece of the country independent.
In the 1800's, Napoleon was the talk of Europe, in 1805, Prussia's name was added to the list of countries the man had added to the French empire. However, in 1813, with the help of Russia, the tide began to turn against the French conqueror, Gilbert loving the fact that he was able to help to push back a bit as revenge, and in 1815, Napoleon was defeated, Prussia once again an independent nation. The rest of the 1800's were mostly quiet, with a two month long war against Austria and Napoleon III not being able to get as far as the first, Prussia helping to snuff out the embers before they could burn too brightly.
The 1900's brought change and the decline of Prussia, beginning in 1914 when the Russians invaded Prussia during WWI, and just went downhill when in 1927, Prussian government lifted the ban on Nazis being able to speak in public, allowing Hitler to brainwash them as well as he did Germany and Austria. However, once they allowed Hitler to overcome them, Prussia, much to his rage, was abolished in 1934 in name, and then officially in 1937 on paper, leaving Prussia without a name or home, until he went to live with Russia and became the GDR.
Prussia, when it was no longer even a providence but just really just something that history books remembered, thought that he'd never feel life within him again. Gilbert then went by his given name, since it made more sense to do so, and decided to watch over Germany and perhaps the other nations in order to fill their lives with a bit more excitement and awesome. Maybe finally not be alone and be able to find what he was searching for when he was a country: companionship and friends without political boundaries. However, when it seemed that couldn't be the case, he just resolved himself to annoying others, as it was better than being left alone all the time.
However, he was also forced to watch the world change and evolve without being able to really give any input in the way it was headed, and for the most part, it seemed like a good thing to most other nations who still placed him as the blame for the second world war. He did go to meetings sometimes, to try to put in his two cents, to be noticed and have his ideas at least considered, but usually felt blown off, even when he was talking about something important instead of wanting everyone to go out to the bar afterwords.
He watched the world go on a roller coaster, through ups and downs of the economy, wars that he could not take part in, and his brother stress over things that he should have been able to stress over too. Been able to feel what his people were doing, what his former children were doing, but there was nothing. Just the cold existence that he had resigned himself to since the Berlin Wall fell, and that he just thought would be the rest of his days until he eventually disappeared.
He was one of the few that survived, how, he didn't know. Just like how he was still alive after all the time that he had been officially dissolved into nothing more than a plaything for whoever owned his land, his capital. He wasn't able to go to the meetings, too weak, but still alive, still breathing, waiting for the death that he knew was coming that he couldn't stop. No matter how much he tried to fight it, how much he tried to live on, thrive, somehow become the awesome thing that he always believed himself to be, he was going to die.
When he woke up when the world was hurled back in time, Prussia couldn't believe it, he could feel again, he was a nation again, and best of all, he remembered.
RP Sample:
It was cold. Colder than it was when he had lived in Russia's house, and it was what Gilbert always had thought dying would be like. Breathing was becoming harder, was it because humanity, or whatever was keeping him alive, had finally used up its resources? Most likely, the more that he thought about it, taking in a sharp inhale that sent knives through him. He couldn't even feel West anymore, which was scary in itself, as even when he was behind that damn wall, he could still feel West, his people, and know that one day they would become one.
However, it would seem that a dying nation didn't need any attachment.
How would West react? Could he even feel that they were severed or was he still spurred on by his people to act to try to save them all? Gilbert couldn't tell, and his mind was too focused on the pain that was wracking his body to really care more about it. If West knew he was dying, knew that he wouldn't be around much longer, what was the point of being around him then? Where it would be awesome not to die alone, Gilbert could understand why West wouldn't want to be here with him. Dying with him. Or finding a way to keep him alive. After all, the world had survived so long without the awesome Prussia around, why even try to save the last piece of it?
When Gilbert closed his eyes for the final time, he thought for sure that was it, the blackness surrounding him, telling him to relax. Slowly the pain ebbed away, and he was taken deeper into the depths of what he could only see as death, but instead turned out to be life. He didn't expect to wake up, to feel younger, or to really be alive actually.
Nor feel the inkling of his people. His nation. He had another chance, and this time, he promised not to blow it.
