Country: Germany
Human name: Ludwig Beilschmidt
Apparent age: 20, appears older because of his build and stiff mannerism.
Gender: male
Appearance: Ludwig is a tall, muscular man with stereotypical Germanic pale skin, blond hair and blue eyes. Most of the time he is seen wearing a uniform & on those rare occasions he doesn’t, he is careful that his ‘casual’ outfit still remains formal enough. Because of his introverted, reflective personality Germany tends to think things through thoroughly before he speaks up leading to the impression he is cold and distant. Germany’s stoic mannerism only enhance that impression.

[/b] In spite of his almost exclusively business-like tone & personality Germany is a great appreciator of the Arts which may come as surprise to some at first. He takes great pride in his long list of German artists & writers such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Georg Baselitz or Thomas Mann. Apart from literature & arts, Germany is very fond of philosophy (especially of Immanuel Kant’s works). It takes a lot of conversational skill to get Germany talk about his artists but once he does he gets himself animated to the point of near-babbling. The Sturm and Drang period in literature gets him especially excited.
Strengths: What are they good at? Also give a little explanation, if you will.
Discipline: Germany is a very calm and controlled man, always careful to stay in control which arguably borderlines on the pedantic; he likes his daily routine planned out in every little detail as means to rule out any possible surprise just as much as he won’t stop working until all work is done.
Modesty: A virtue instilled by his brother when Prussia still used to be on the height of his might. Modesty, in Germany’s opinion, is what truly makes a man into a gentleman. It is always important to know your limits and to never take more than offered. He is less than thrilled to witness his brother’s complete lack of modesty these days.
Responsibility: One of his virtues that goes hand in hand with Germany’s strong sense of self-discipline & modesty. He is a man of his word & one aware of the role he plays on the global theatre stage.
Diligence: Germany is a hard-working, untiring man trying to solve a problem until it is solved and never leaving work unless there are more important matters to attend. As such, Germany has little sympathy for slackers & people lazing around when work is calling.

Weaknesses: Everybody must have weaknesses, what are your character's?
Fears: What do they fear?
Personality: Please give a description of their personality. Three paragraphs minimum.
Germany is a reserved, somewhat shy man appearing to be somewhere in his twenties who utterly fails at the simplest form of small talk but who, curiously, enjoys the unofficial position of ‘chairman of the EU’ (along with France) far more than he’d ever admit.
Although often perceived as someone living to work, Germany values the little free time he gets. He enjoys spending quality time with his dogs or the few friends he has – granted, he’d be reluctant to call anyone his friend out of fear they may reject him – and reading. As far as films go, Germany is extremely fond of what France offers but lacks any sense of comprehension as to why half the time something has to explode in America’s films.
Around people he doesn’t know Germany is extremely awkward, around people he likes he is extremely shy and is often teased by Prussia for his conversational shortcomings. England, on the other hand, is careful to remind Germany of the way he is butchering ‘his’ language which leads to an extra level of frustration on Germany’s part. One day, he swore to himself, he will learn to properly pronounce the th.

Family: As family or part of the family Germany considers his brother Prussia, Austria and Switzerland as they all had been part of the same once upon a time even though relations with Switzerland have become a little sour due ever since the tax dodgers fiasco at the beginning of 2010.
As family in the broader sense he considers France as both feel extremely responsible for the EU, and England whose Germanic roots & traces make him something like a distant cousin in Germany’s eyes.
In some way, Germany considers Rome and Germania as family, too, even though he never met them. However, much of what he is today is due to their direct or indirect influence.
Friends: Germany considers most of the EU as his friends, most notably France, the USA, Japan & Italy (with Berlusconi putting a strain on his relationship with Italy, however).
Friends: During Gerhard Schröder’s time as chancellor, Germany’s relationships with Russia had been considerably better than under Merkel’s reign where relations have gone a little sour. Russia’s childlike unpredictability make him nervous just as much as China’s boss makes him uncomfortable.
Relationships with Israel are as complicated as ever with little to no improvement.
History: What happened when they were throttled back in time? What was their history after 2010? Try include their thoughts, how they coped and what they intended to do now that they have a chance to start afresh.
Traditionally, the coronation of Otto I. in 962 is regarded as hour of birth of the German state. Referred to as regnum teutonicum, German realm, the Holy Roman Empire (formerly known as East Francia) became a federal state after the concept of a central state proved a failure. To this day the idea of federalism and territorial regulation and reign is a concept deeply rooted within the German mind, leading to regular conflicts and problems among traditionalists and reformists.
In 1517, when Martin Luther publicized his 95 Thesen a religious doctrine conflict broke out threatening not only the safety of the fragile German state but the peace on the entire European continent.
As a result of Luther’s German translation of the bible & his publications, a new religious branch emerged – Protestantism.
During the 17th/18th century Germany, i.e. the Holy Roman Empire, and its German territorial rulers brought concept and notion of French absolutism to Germany until 1806.
During Napoleon’s semi-reign over the HRE the amount of states had been reduced from over 300 to 60 states altogether. As a result Napoleon managed to split the HRE into three main states, namely Prussia, Austria & the Rhenish Confederation.
In 1814-1815 the Congress of Vienna declared the status quo ante bellum & the old power relations before Napoleon’s conquest had been restored for the most part. In the German Confederation, successor of the dissolved HRE & made of 38 states, a quest for political domination emerged between Prussia and Austria eventually resulting in Austria’s exit & declaration of sovereignty.
In 1871 the German Empire was founded, a time of idealism, rising nationalism the wish to hold pace with French & British colonization politicis. The German Empire officially fell in 1918 after the end of WWII, giving rise to the Weimar Republic and, eventually, the Third Reich.
After WWII & upon being divided, Germany took on the role of West while his now dissolved brother took on the role of East Germany.
After reunification in 1990, Germany was finally allowed to emerge as one nation.
When Germany watched the world end, his only regret was being unable to emotionally reunite with his brother as well. So when he opened his eyes and realised he wasn’t dead, he swore himself to find his brother and sort things out at last.
It only gradually dawned on him that he got transferred back in time – something he is quite grateful for now that he was granted so many second chances.
Germany is not sure who or what is responsible for that, but he is convinced it is a sign to not only make history never repeat itself again like that but to make his past sins undone.

He remembers.
What a curious thing to remember now; something so trivial, something so many centuries ago. It feels like a lifetime¬, almost—someone else’s lifetime.
And yet—it’s a warm memory, a nice one, full of light and comfort and his brother’s hand reaching out for him, big and hot and loving, and Prussia’s smile is like the sun.
“Brother,” Germany breathes and reaches out only to realise Prussia isn’t there, and he’s not reaching out for him, either. It’s nothingness he reaches out for, nothingness that sorrounds him, engulfs him, pets his hear and whispers soothing words into his ears.
“Don’t cry,” Prussia told him all these centuries ago after he fell and scrapped his knees. “It’s nothing to cry about.”
How ironic, he thinks. Now there truly is nothing to cry about.
Germany says, “So this is the end of the world,” and steps further into that blinding white light.
If there is nothing to cry about, there is nothing to fear.
And nothing to miss.
Brother.
