JELENA RUŽA OBRADOVIĆ
"God does not love those who have not suffered."
"And if I sold my soul to you for a bag of gold, which one of us would be the foolish one?"
"God does not love those who have not suffered."
"And if I sold my soul to you for a bag of gold, which one of us would be the foolish one?"
Is it true what I heard about the son of God? Je li istina ono što sam èuo o Sin Božji?
Did he come to save? Did he come at all? Je li on došao spasiti? Je li došao toèno na sve?
And if I dried his feet with my dirty hair, A ako sam sušeni noge s mojim prljave kose, would he make me clean again? on bi me oèistiti opet?

Country: Kingdom of Croatia, under the rule of Hungary, and at the moment, under the rule of the Ottoman Empire
Human name: Jelena Ruža Obradović
Apparent age: In the future, she is 20. Upon her return, she becomes 14 (Almost 15).
Gender: Female
Appearance: Jelena is 5'3" tall, and about 100-110 lbs. She has mousy brown has with some natural curl to it that reaches just below her shoulders, and she usually has it in a ponytail or updo. She's got delicate features, as well as full lips, long eyelashes, and bright green eyes. She wears little to no make-up besides maybe mascara and a teeny bit of lip gloss, or eye shadow and lipstick on special occasions. She has a small, slender body type, though wears a c-cup. She normally wears a t-shirt and jeans when not in a police uniform or suit, nowadays, detesting what the black uniform she used to wear during the second World War, and what it stood for. The most common expression on her face is a frown, and the closest she usually gets to a smile is a second long upwards lip quirk into a tiny half smile.
(In picture, the fruit is not canon XD;;
They say they don't know when, but a day is gonna come, Oni kažu da ne znaju kada, ali dan je da će se,
When there won't be a moon and there won't be a sun. kada neće biti mjesec i tamo neće biti ned.
It will just go black, it will just go back To će samo ići crni, samo će se vratiti
To the way it was before. na način na koji je bio prije.

Strengths: What are they good at? Also give a little explanation, if you will.
- Physical Strength As a small or young or crippled nation, Jelena has always exhibited rather unusual bursts of strength. These bursts can catch people off guard, seeing as they're coming from such a small and defenseless looking girl and they've been the source of her victories all throughout history. She likes to use brute strength in everything she does, so be wary if she gets frustrated or angry, because it might be you she uses it on.
- Tactical Skill To go with that brute strength, Jelena has always been forced to be good with tact against her obstacles. Usually being forced to fight on the front lines in wars, it's best that she learned this skill, or else she'd be in a worse situation than she already is.
- Common Sense Jelena, while having a bad temper, still manages to keep her head and use her common sense in tough situations. Once again, in order to use any tact she has at the moment, she has to be able to think on her feet or else she'd be in trouble in most fights she gets into.
- Good Speaker Jelena has a good control of syntax and rhetoric and will use that to her advantage when she can. With words, she's learned how to manipulate many people with how she speaks. More than anything, she knows how to rile people up and make them stop thinking and start reacting.
- Determination Jelena will rarely ever give up on anything. If she starts something, she's sure to finish it in any way she can. Having been under the control of many other people in the past, she's never quite given up on trying to earn her own autonomy. Smaller goals of hers get the same ambition.
Weaknesses: Everybody must have weaknesses, what are your character's?
- Physical size While she is very strong, Jelena is still very small. If her brute strength and tact is beaten, she has nothing to fall back on and if pinned or held down in some way, she has nothing she can do.
- Sarcasm/Backtalk While her rhetoric can be beneficial, Jelena has a nasty habit of talking way too much when she's at a disadvantage, ultimately digging herself into a hole she can't get out of. This gets her into a lot of trouble. Not to mention, she swears like a sailor when angered.
- Stubborn/Grudges If you've done something to her, it will take Jelena AGES to get over it. She will not trust you, talk kindly to you, even make any attempts to make up with you. This leaves her with plenty of enemies trying to make up and remaining enemies because they've given up on trying to earn her trust. She doesn't let people in very often, either, so most people get rather annoyed with her rather quickly.
- Paranoia To only increase her horrible people skills, Jelena also has a horrible sense of paranoia. She feels like someone or something is always out to get her, and therefore is always on her toes. She is even slower to trust people and refuses to tell them anything she thinks she might regret.
- Common Sense Where she may have this in most fighting or life-or-death situations, she doesn't have it in most common situations. She can be very dense and has trouble reading the atmosphere at times, and peoples' innermost feelings are a sort of mystery to her. For example, if someone else took a fancy to her, she would have absolutely no clue. More people get annoyed with her because of this.
Fears: What do they fear?
- Philophobia- Fear of love, falling in love, or being in love
- Mnemophobia- Fear of memories
- Autophobia- Fear of being alone
Personality: A very proud girl. She's also very hotheaded, but won't admit it. (Whether or not, she'd happily beat you up if you really piss her off. Which doesn't take too much, so beware!) Because of her uneasy and unforgiving nature, she doesn't have a lot of friends. This doesn't seem to bother her too much, because she doesn't really care and would actually love to be left alone. It might also be because she's sarcastic, bitter, cold, snarky, and brutally honest. 'Filters are for cigarettes and coffee', she always said. She can be egotistical at times, though also will not admit this. And no matter what she'll say or do, she LOVES compliments, so when presented with them, she'll accept them either quietly or with a sarcastic remark. (Don't take the latter as a hostile reaction, it's just how she is.)
She is actually quite polite, hospitable, caring and fun to be with, behind her egotistic, angry, reclusive facade. But only if you really get to know her. And this takes a lot, since she has serious trust issues. In fact, she can know someone for years and still not have one ounce of trust in them. She won't tell you outright that she doesn't trust you, if she manages to take a liking to you. Just don't expect to hear any personal stories. She acts maternal to Bosnia and a few others, and can act sympthetic, if she wants, but usually comes off as a bit heartless to those who annoy her (And this is most everyone). If you're on her bad side, good luck going anywhere else. That means you, Serbia.
Despite being intelligent and happily flaunting her intelligence every chance she gets, Jelena can be very dense about some things. She has very little experience in the romantic field and any advances short of a bop on the forehead and shouting, "I'M ATTRACTED TO YOU" into her ear with a bullhorn will not even register on her radar. She's also rather self-conscious about her body and can't stand physical contact, especially anywhere near her back or vital regions. If any of these areas are breached, she will respond through force to get the perpetrator away (Otherwise known as a dropkick, punch to the face, or knee to the groin).Although there are a rare few exceptions.
If you were to give her tropes, they would be Little Miss Badass, Deadpan Snarker, Broken Bird, and The Red Sonja.
I knew a lovely girl with such pretty pride, Znao sam lijepu djevojku s takvim prilično ponosom,
and every man wanted her, yeah and so did I. i svaki muškarac htjela, da i tako sam.
Yeah, and so did I. But she up and died Da, i tako sam. Ali ona se i umro

Family: Her mother, Illyria, and her father, Rome, as well as her cousin, Herzegovina. She also somewhat considers the Yugoslavs (Bosnia,Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia) 'family' after sharing a household multiple times, but she's sure she's not blood related to them.
Friends: Germany, Belarus, Bosnia, the United States of America(Although he's annoying), United Kingdom, Japan, etc. (Although she's rather reluctant to be friendly to people).
Enemies: Serbia is her greatest rival, though Slovenia (Trying to steal her coastline) is climbing the lists. No other real enemies appear on the list, although plenty are probably annoyed or dislike her. The Italies also annoy her.
History: Jelena was born in the 4th century in an area originally called 'Illyria', to Illyria, herself, and Rome. She represented the Istrian peninsula and eventually took on the role of the area in the 7th century, where she eventually became one of the two Croatian dukedoms (The Dalmatian Duchy in the south, compared to the Pannonian duchy in the north). The first King of Croatia, Tomislav of the Trpimirovic dynasty, was crowned in 925. He united the two duchies (Jelena's first arranged marriage at a very young age) and created a state (Which she began to represent when her husband-to-be disappeared). However, following the disappearance of the native dynasty by the end of the 11th century, she was forced to recognize the Hungarian kingdom as her leader. The adoptive nature of this union left a young Jelena under the guidance of Elizabeta, although she was rather annoyed with the fact that she was mainly ignored and used as a servant. As the Turks invaded Europe, Croatia once again became a border area, a sort of body guard or foot soldier for her guardian country (Also at a very young age, though she had begun to exhibit remarkable strength). She fought but gradually fused with the Ottoman Empire of the Turks, and was stuck in his household.
By 1526, the Ottoman Empire further expanded to include more of her land and furthered his control over the angry young kingdom. Later in the same century, large areas of Croatia and Slavonia adjacent to the Ottoman Empire were carved out into the Military Frontier and ruled directly from Vienna's military headquarters, thus leading her to serve as a spy in the Ottoman household, relating any weaknesses she spotted directly to Austria. By the 1700s, Jelena was liberated from the Ottoman household, and Austria brought the empire under its control. The Habsburgs of Austria eventually got them and by 1815 Dalmatia and Istria became part of the empire, leaving Jelena once again the servant in Hungary and Austria's household. By mid 19th century Croatian nationalism in her began to swell and she began to rebel. Following the Revolutions of 1848 in Habsburg areas and the marriage of Austria-Hungary, Croatia lost her domestic autonomy and thus any freedom she had left. Autonomy was restored in 1868 with the Hungarian-Croatian Settlement, when Elizabeta finally decided to start treating her better. Shortly before the end of the First World War in 1918, Jelena severed relations with Austria-Hungary as the Allies defeated the Habsburgs, no longer wanting to relate to them.
By this time, she decided it would be best to join with her 'Brothers', Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, and Slovenia and create the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. The Kingdom underwent a crucial change in 1921, when Serbia began to take control of his 'siblings' and changed the constitution and borders to favor himself, to the dismay of Jelena, she joined the Peasant Party of Stjepan Radic. In 1928, Serbia and her got into a fight, in which she was almost mortally wounded, furthering her anger at the Kingdom. In 1929, Serbia proclaimed a dictatorship of the household and renamed the country Kingdom of Yugoslavia. In 1934, Jelena exhibited another fit of strength, getting into another fight with Serbia and winning, receiving some autonomy in 1939 with a reshuffling of the provinces, but Serbia was beaten down in 1941 and the Axis powers quickly occupied Yugoslavia, in which Jelena, grateful for freedom, fell into the hands of Germany. In this time, she began to exhibit a loathing for Serbia, and when she became a puppet under Germany's careful eye (becoming a member of the fascist group, the Ustaše), she began to beat her 'brother' viciously whenever he came into her sight. After the fall of the Axis in 1945, she was beaten back into submission by her newly strengthened 'brother', becoming a reluctant part of the newly rebuilt household, Yugoslavia.
This time under a communist regime, the Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia began by actually treating her rather well, though she was still lacking the freedom she craved. With Josip Tito's death in 1980, Serbia's new boss, Slobodan Milošević, began influencing Serbia to treat Jelena worse and worse, until she could bear it no longer. While years under the rule of SFR Yugoslavia had kept her weak, Jelena declared her independence in 1991 and went to war with her 'brother', eventually coming back against grim odds to win in 1995. She began her first decade as a nation harshly, going through tough economical and political times, but by the 21st century had begun to get things together. She joined the UN and received EU Applicant status in 2009 (Despite Slovenia's blockade) and finally was accepted nearly a decade later. She began to open up a little, over the years, eventually making more allies and even trying to reconnect ties with Serbia (Though the road to friendship has been long and tedious, both reluctant to apologize and accept that the past was over).

(From a rather interesting plot, but a good look into how I write.)
He it HE had been found. FINALLY. How long had it been since the announcement was made? She could hardly remember. The days passed like the infection of a particularly nasty wound: slowly and painfully, with a lot of wretchedness thrown in. And, aside from that, how long had it been since she was brought into the house? She'd been there the longest of the four 'victims'. She'd been there as each of them was brought in, there to do her best to help them..... Obviously, it had not been enough.
She stared at the board blankly, her face darkened and haunted since meeting Patirck, the little boy they’d recently made an ally of. The bruises from his fingers ached at the thought. He’d suffered far worse than she had, in injuries. When your ‘tormentors’ suffer as much as you do, the situation has become very bad. Very, very bad.
Did no one know they were here? They were here. She was here. She was here. This was painful. Painful. Painful. And there was nothing they could do. Nothing she could do. She prayed. She screamed. She tried to make the place more bearable. There was no way to make this any better. This effort was worthless. Prayers? There was no one to hear them. Not in this Hell. Screams? Silence was all she could produce. Not that anyone was around to hear. Bearable? Too painful. Much too painful..... They were here...... She was here.....
She looked down at the hierarchy. She’d been moved down one. And her title had been changed. Irritating to Annoying. No change, practically. Frankly, she didn’t care. There were more important things to deal with than the cruel, childish games they were forced to take part in.
Like her sanity. She knew it was deteriorating. She never had a doubt in her mind. Where she was once stubborn and proud, independent and never in need of help, a lone wolf……. She was a now a weakened, hollow shell of her former self, clinging to others as if they were her only lifeline. She felt her very mind slipping at the thought.
It was hard to watch yourself slip. Like…. A movie. An out-of-body experience. There was nothing she could do. The only things currently keeping her together were Emilie, the boy, Katie, and the other people. She looked at Yuu for a moment, remembering the bullets and the noose. Something was being planned.
Violent. Bloody. Maybe even fatal. Ivan had made certain to point to that in everything he did in the house. She looked at Yuu for another moment, unresponsive as she saw him looking at her, too. When he looked away, so did she.
The Bird of Happiness. Ha, what a joke. Ivan must have been pulling his own leg, along with everyone else’s, in the house. Any happiness, here, was inconceivable. No one was exempt. Ha. She felt her lips quirk upwards in a smirk, not caring that her brain was supposed to be in control of them. She really was going crazy. She followed Yuu to the book, reading over his shoulder. Blood.
How thoughtful of Ivan, to put another touch of violence into her brain. Her mind reeled as she read the story. She was a mermaid. Yuu and Yao, as Ivan had referred to them when they were first tied to their posts, were goats. She figured Matthieu was Sir Peter….. Who was Natalya? She had been in this house, right? She’d seen her….. No matter. She was not the bird. Kiku must have been. Yuu reached the last page. She froze.
Bloody end. Bloody end. Of course. She gritted her teeth, mouth stretching in a manic smile, eyes darkening. Ivan was going to kill Kiku. If they didn’t move fast. They had to move. She took in the last page as Yuu went into his rage. A torn page missing. This had to mean something. She took a mental not on it, then followed Yuu, watching as he repeated Yao’s earlier action, stabbing the papers.
She forced her haunted smile into a grim line, walking up to him. She was still for a split second, before brushing past him, breaking into a sprint. Boxes! Boxes! Where were boxes?! The panic that she should have felt when she initially read the notice flooded her being.
Kiku, while Yuu was her partner, was who she had been closest to, in the end. He allowed her companionship when they were both most vulnerable. And now he was subject to….. if there was any truth to that story, being packed in a small space, awaiting a bloody end. She would not let that happen. She knew the direness of the situation at hand.
A single stumble, and she could be too late. She would not be too late. Her conscious could not… Would not… Bear that burden. She plowed ahead. THERE HAD TO BE SOME SIGN. He was there. He was there, somewhere.

I've been sent to my room. I've been sat in a chair. Ja sam bio poslan u moju sobu. Ja sam bio sjedio u stolcu.
And I held my tongue. I didn't plug my ears. I ja sam održao mom jeziku. Nisam plug moje uši.
