[ INTROOOOOO DUN DUN DUUUUN beware of giant wall of text ]
Sigh. No. He should smile. He feels better today. Only just. Only slightly. His eyes weren't tired. His back didn't ache. He had a full night of sleep. He should smile. No. When he gets up, when he walks through the house, when he looks out the window, he'll start to hurt. He can't. He doesn't want to. He will see the rumbling clouds. The growling grey storm in the sky. He will see his beloved Athens, his mother's heart, crumble and fall. His people begging on the streets. Poor people begging other poor people for scraps and pity. He didn't want this. He never wanted this for his people. All those wars. He has never once wished for his people to be harmed. But.. that war... it couldn't be helped, could it? Everybody was desperate. No water. No energy. No food. then the plagues. People became self centered. The person who had more resources would keep it for themselves, and when they ran out they would take from others. The scientists.. They.. He knew that they had tried. They had given it their best. At first, everyone had faith. Everyone believed that these people would find, invent a way to save them. But.. slowly, the scientists realised that there wasn't a way. They looked, they sought, one by one, they lost hope. He could feel.. a few of his scientists working. Stubbornly in their laboratories; in their basements. They didn't want to give up. Heh. That.. made him happy. There was still hope. Still. One day, the sky will be blue again, the air will be cool and there will be food and water for every single person on this earth again. One day.
Slowly, Greece lifts his head from the pillow and sits up, half pushing the covers off his stomach. He opens his eyes and blearily looks around to his window. A faint light was streaming through the slits, casting lines of light on the white sheets. Carefully, he leans towards the window, reaching his hand out towards the wooden panes. Wait. Wooden? Had he spent the night in the old summer house? Warily he pushes the panes open and his eyes shut close as the light blinds him. The sea. Gulls. He can hear the ocean. The salt.
He throws the covers of his legs and pushes the window wide open. The sun. The sky. The sea. It was blue. Blue! Greece laughs. He leans his body out the window. He was going to fall. But he had to see. He had to look. The town. His people. He could see women, men, children starting to peep out their windows and doors and take their first steps on the street. Happy. Healthy. Greece throws his hands high above his head, whoops and falls back onto his bed. The sun was warm again. Pleasantly warm. Like the springs that he spent with his mother. Warm. He hears a soft mew at his ear and he twists around. Cat! He puts a finger behind the felines' ear and starts to scratch it before pulling the cat close and wrapping his arms around it. He sits up and looks around the room. Cats! His smile widens and he starts to mew, petting the mattress beside him, hoping that another cat will join him on the bed. He missed them.
Wait...
He looked down. His hands. These... weren't his. Carefully he places the cat back onto the bed and holds both hands drawn infront of him. Small. He turns his head and finds a mirror on the dressing table. He jumps off his bed and walks towards the table and stares into th-
He could see the reflection's eyes grow wide. His hands wander up to his hair and he runs his fingers through the brown tangle on his head. He looked... young. 16.. maybe 17. Wait. He runs back to the bed, jumps on the mattress and leans outside the window again. The town. It.. He hasn't seen a town like this in a long time. Not.. not since the 15th century. No.. No.. That can't be.. How..? He looks over his shoulder. There was a quick rapt of knocks on his door.
" Get up. We need you to help out with the kitchen today," Calls a voice. A woman. She sound familiar, " Hey, Sleepy. Get up and get to work," As that was said, Greece could hear footsteps slowly fading away. 15th... century. He turns his head around and back out the window.
