"Says she talks to angels
They call her out by her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels
Says they call her out by her name
She keeps a lock of hair in her pocket
She wears a cross around her neck
Yes the hair is from a little boy
And the cross from someone she has not met
Not yet." -She Talks To Angels: The Black Crowes

Country: República de Argentina/ Virreinato del Perú
Human name: Evita "Eva" Duarte
Apparent age: 2010: 22; 1500: 12
Gender: Female. Very, very female.
Appearance: 22: Standing at 5'8", taller when wearing heels. She has dark brown curly hair with heavy black tints to it that falls to her shoulders, usually in it is a red headband with what appears to be a dark red flower on the side to bring out her garnet eyes even more. She wears slightly darker make-up, her dark-red lipstick being a trademark. Usually dressed nicer in blouses, skirts and heels or boots, underneath her blouses is an elaborate heart tattoo near her own as well as two chains around her neck. One with a gold cross, the other an oval silver locket; on her left ring is a garnet ring. Attached at her hip is a harness holding a worn, leather whip.
12: At 12, she stands at 5'4" and her hair keeping at her shoulders but instead of the thick ringlets they fall in loose waves from the high humidity. Wearing clothing traditional of the Incans, usually longer, short-sleeved dresses (one or two pieces) that falls to her knees with a long sash tied around her waist and walks barefoot instead of wearing sandals (she'd rather feel the earth beneath her feet rather than wear any sort of shoes).
Entonces, me quedo quieto y espero aquí en el silencio
Hasta que llegas y te sientas un rato conmigo
Hasta que llegas y te sientas un rato conmigo

Strengths:
- Wit: Despite all appearances, she has a sharp tongue that hadn't dulled over the centuries but only continued to sharpen with age and experience. Unable to stand stupidity, she usually has a witty remark to answer with.
- Sailing: Proving to be more useful throughout her teen years as well as something that she quite enjoys, she found that it paid to live on the coast after...Unfortunate happenings occurred involving the Spanish Empire. Learning how to sail when she was 16, spending most of the 1600's-1700's out at sea in the Carribean to not only help with protecting her home, but also for other reasons.
- Durability: Given everything that she has seen and experienced over the centuries, she honestly doesn't know how she has managed to survive (let alone come back from) a lot of it. In the end though, everything that she has gone through has made her stronger, abiet becoming more jaded from it.
- Agility: From growing up both around the forests, the sea, and later on a ship, agility was a necessity especially with during her teen years being a "thief". From a young age from how she was raised, she leaned quickly that agility was necessary for the hunt. Later, she learned how to hone it and use it to her advantage.
- Manipulation: Being a woman, she had to learn early on to use what she has along with her intelligence to get what she needed to get accomplished done. Through trial and error over the centuries, her skills were enhanced and honed as well as proving to be quite useful in her endeavors.
- Sense of Duty: She has always held a strong sense of duty toward her people; her descamisados though not so much toward her government. However her sense of duty to her people has led her to do many things that were against her own feelings and beliefs to help them, which in turn has landed her into a lot of trouble.
- Cooking: Through being raised in various types of cultures, she learned very quickly how to cook and bake (baking more so when she is angry or upset about something). Knowing how to cook well has come in handy more times than once for her, especially when being around others who couldn't.
Weaknesses:
- Temper/Sarcasm: Eva when angered, has a nasty Spanish temper. Her triggers are harder to find, and she is usually hard to rise to that point, though when she is prepare for a tongue-lashing or heavy sarcasm. When her temper rises, it is harder to bring her back down to earth.
- Stubborn: The woman is stubborn to a fault, though she will continually deny that she is. She is dead-set in her beliefs, making it harder for anyone to convince her to the contrary on different issues.
- Grudges: She is one who tends to hold onto grudges, mainly depending on the person. She will act as though she has forgiven, but she is a woman who tends not to forget.
- Secretive: Eva doesn't like people to be in her business, never has. She is the type of person that if she wants you to know what's going on, then she will let you know. Other than that, she'd kindly ask that others butt out. Whenever something is bothering her, she will keep a straight-face and insist that she's fine...Even though she's not. She'd rather deal with her problems herself than have others worrying about her.
- Deals With Her Problems Alone: She would rather deal with her issues alone than have anyone getting involved with her problems, though if she tells someone what is going on that means that she truly trusts the person. However, because of her strong sense of pride she will never ask anyone for help. Never.
- Cute Things: Though she denies any relation to Spain, this is one area where it really shows as well as one of the few times where she will act like a female. Anything cute, such as animals or anything else that catches her eye she can't help but begin to fawn over.
- Weaker Body: Due to the 1940's-1952, Eva can't handle very high-stress situations (especially personal ones) very well unless she manages to keep herself calm and not let herself get worked up. If she gets herself to worked up or upset, she suffers from light-headed tendencies which could in turn lead to fainting if she isn't careful.
Fears:
- Eremophobia: Loneliness. She, as much as she will never admit to it, doesn't like to be alone for extended periods of time.
- Philophobia: Falling in love. With her long string of failed relationships, she believed that love would only cause more problems and that she would only end up hurt again.
- Asthenophobia: Weakness. She believes that to show any sign of weakness, that it means that the one who does so opens up the door to be taken advantage of. So she keeps a strong facade, despite being a strong woman, she feels as though she must keep the act of strength up at all times.
- Athazagoraphobia: Being forgotten. One of her biggest fears, though she herself isn't exactly sure why it is so.
Personality: Eva at first impression appears to be...Intimidating (believed to be because of her delinquent background on top of how she carries herself). Being a strong woman, most either don't know how to handle her or when they try they can't. She has a cool and calm demeanor around strangers and acquaintances, usually quick with a sarcastic remark once something begins to annoy her. Despite her cool outward demeanor, once one is able to get to know her and gain her trust, she is a warm, maternal, intelligent, and open-hearted person.
Proud and stubborn to the core, her pride has more than once been taken for arrogance. Despite not being one to cross, she holds respect in high regard, you respect her and expect to be treated with the same type of treatment in return. Despite keeping her emotions bottled away, one sure fire way to know what she's thinking is to look into her expressive eyes.
Aside from appearances and though she would never admit it, she is close to only a select few. Fiercely protective of those she cares about, she would do whatever it takes to keep those certain people safe even if it puts her own life on the line. She believes firmly in the saying of "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer", a belief that she continues to hold onto. She holds a policy that trust isn't something that is automatically gained, it is to be earned. Once one loses this woman's trust, then she will not give you another chance to redeem yourself and prove yourself otherwise.
As a younger girl, she being one of the oldest out of the Latin American countries and having to essentially raise her younger brothers and sisters, she had to grow up quickly. Taking on a more maternal role rather than that of an older sister, she grew to be more serious, cool, and calm. Despite having to deal with all of the bickering and fighting between her siblings, she has always been a dreamer. Always looking up at the stars and letting her mind wander, praying for the perfect life. Even after everything that she has been through and experienced, she can never turn her eyes away from the stars and just keep on dreaming.
Tú me levantas, para que pueda pararme sobre las montañas
Tú me levantas, para caminar en mares tormentosos
Tú me levantas, para caminar en mares tormentosos
[/i] She watched as the postman gave a nod and handed her several letters, a small smile forming on his own lips.
Family: Being one of the oldest in South America, Eva practically raised many of her Latin American brothers and sisters when they lived among the original hunters and gatherers. Before Spain invaded, she lived with the Incans for around 40 years after they invaded her home. They taught her how to speak Quercha, their rituals, etc. Even though she technically wasn't one of their own, she was treated as one of their daughters. However after Spain and his conquistadors came and destroyed the Incan Empire, she was essentially forced to go under his wing along with her little brothers and sisters and to see him as their Papa and later coming to see Portugal as an aunt. Despite everything, she has also come to see England as part of the family.
Friends: While she is allied to and trades with several powerful nations such as France, Spain, and Turkey; there are few that she actually is truly close too on a personal level. America since they met were close friends, serving as the others confidant. Even though they dated for a brief time, she has come to see him as an over-active younger brother. Despite having a long-standing rivalry, she is especially close to England. No matter what, the two would have the others' back should anything happen. As well as being the only one that she has ever really and truly loved.
Rivals: Two of her biggest rivalries are with Chile and Brazil, Chile in particular. No matter what, these three are at each others' throats or in some kind competition. Brazil she can at least tolerate, Chile she can't stand especially with his "I'm way more awesome than you!" attitude. Though in a way, her whole family can be seen in this way with how they act around each other. From the time that they met, she had always had a strong rivalry with England in anything and everything as it continues to be.
History: Despite the economy in recent years getting better after many years of civil war and thinking she could actually finally do something for herself, economic issues began to take effect again. Not just for her, but also for her younger siblings. Though she had other plans, she was forced to stay at home to help sort out issues that the siblings had been dealing with for years. Despite such, the bickering as well as the highly unneeded added stress only added to her rapidly growing worry over the whole situation, and not just their own. Dizziness began to effect her, soon leading to passing out in her home.
Waking up to earthy smells and sights that she hadn't seen in centuries...She was stunned to see that she was back in the care of the Incan Empire as well as being back to her twelve-year-old state. She didn't know what was going on, nor was she sure she even wanted too. But for now while she struggles to figure it out...She figured it was all a dream anyway, that she would soon wake up in the hospital. Oh well...Might as well enjoy seeing one of her original families while she actually could.
Actual History:
Nomadic tribes appeared around 4000 B.C. in the far south of the country, though Eva herself wasn't born until 1000 B.C. In 500 B.C. with the development of irrigation, farming settlements began to emerge with the nomads beginning to settle more in the west and northwest. Tribes such as the Cienaga, Aguada, and Santa Maria settled in the lands by growing corn and other crops in 1 A.D. Metalwork in 600 soon led to the emergance of more urban settlements all over the country in 850.
It wasn't until 1480 until any invaders tried to take over, with the Incan empire conquering the northwestern division and holding onto the territory until 1516 when Alfonso de Solis became the first European to enter and explore the territory in search for gold and riches. However, with new diseases being brought over and wars between the Spanish and the Incans, the Argentine Incan Empire fell to the Spaniards in 1516. Another Spanish explorer became the first to explore the Rio de la Plata area also in 1516 in search of gold, however is killed and was possibly eaten by either the native Charrúa, Querandí or Guaraní. All through the rest of the 1500's, the Spaniards continued to come and began to colonize the country, with Santa María del Buen Ayre (now Buenos Aires) being founded in 1536, abandoned in 1541 after continuous attacks of local Argentine tribes, and reinstated as a permanent colony in 1580 as part of the Virreinato del Perú agreement from 1542.
Spanish missionaries as well as Portugese explorers made most of the 1600s, the Spanish bringing Catholic teachings to the indigineous people while the Portugese built a trading post running between Rio de la Plata and Buenos Aires. Then in 1776, the Virreinato del Río de la Plata compromising of modern-day Argentina, Uruguay, Peraguay, and Bolivia was established; making Buenos Aires the capital.
From 1800-1825, came the only period when the Spanish colonies could actually get along with agreeance to embark in a revolution to gain independence from Spain. British forces from 1806-1807 tried to invade Rio de la Plata to establish control over Spain's southern colonies as part of the Napoleonic Wars, however were forced back by local militias and civilians.
With the news of Napoleon invading Spain in 1810, led to events leading up to the week-long May Revolution from May 18 to May 25 1810 and is long considered to be the spark that began the Argentine War for Independence. Uprisings occured until the first full battle, the Battle of San Lorenzo in 1813. The war continued, on July 9, 1816, the Argentine Congress formally declared indepence from Spain and fully won independence after the Battle of Cepeda in 1820. Spain on February 23, 1820 signed the Treaty of Pilar, formally creating the República de Argentina with England recognizing Argentine independence in 1825. However right after the war ended, came the Argentina-Brazil War with the declaration to break away from Brazil, the Battle of Ituzaingó causing a major turning point in Argentine favor and leading to Argentine victory in 1828. Up until 1900, the Argentine were settling into their new-found independence, with the Constitution of Argentina being signed in 1853. However, conflict continued to arise as the 20th century closed in. In particular with the founding of the Radical Civic Union (UCR) in 1890.
Democracy for men was instated in 1912 by Sáenz Peña Law, which led to the eventual election of UCR Radical, Hipólito Yrigoyen in 1916. Uprisings and protests began, calling for reform within the government. With the rise of the uprisings in the 1920's, it foreshadowed the upcoming problems for the country.
Military coups began in 1930, desposing Yrigoyen and beginning the Infamous Decade (Around the time when Eva had gone into hiding, mostly for her own safety). Through the course of ten years, uprisings and civil war between the lower class people and the military were occurring as well as many power shifts with different military leaders all with clashing views and ideas for the country. Argentina continued with the non-intervention of WWII in 1943 with the 'National Revolution' of military leaders who for the first years of the war were stationed in Italy. With the San Juan Earthquake, Colonel Juan Peron took his chance and worked to lay seize to power at the end of 1943. (With several years before, she had heard about Juan Peron and saw her opportunity to come out of hiding and take back her country under the guise of a human however at a great personal cost.) Argentina formally joined WWII on the side of the Allies in 1945 and was admitted as a founding member of the United Nations that same year.
Eva and Colonel Peron met on January 22, 1944 at a charity event and married early the following year. The GOU (United Officers Group) had a great influence over the Argentine government at the time, and felt as though Peron was gaining to much power, to quickly. Peron was arrested on October 9, 1945 only to be later released six days due to the protests of their followers, their "descamisados" and was elected president in 1946 and later re-elected in 1951. In 1947, Eva Peron left to Europe for the "Rainbow Tour," saying it to be a non-political goodwill tour. She was well-received in Spain, however wasn't in Switzerland as well as Southern Italy. She was well-received in France, however her health had begun to fail her so her trip was cut short without the planned visit to the United Kingdom. With her help, on August 21, 1946 a bill for women's suffrage was pushed through the Argentine Senate however it wasn't sanctioned by the Representatives until September 7, 1947.
In order to try and relieve some of the hardships over the lower classes, the Fundación María Eva Duarte de Perón was created on July 8, 1948. Donations were asked to be made by the people, within the first couple of years the intake had gotten up to over thirty million pesos that went back out for the building of schools, hospitals, scholarships, giving of goods and other needs to the lower classes. Because of all of her work among the poor and the countless hours that she put into the Foundation, the people began to regard her as a saint, beginning to call her Santa Evita. With the rallied calls of the people for her to accept the candidacy for Vice President of the country and run alongside her husband in 1951. However, her health was declining and she knew it had been for several years. Juan Peron was re-elected on June 4, 1952 and a few days later in an official ceremony, Eva was given the title of "Spiritual Leader of the Nation." She passed away on July 26, 1952; many say that when she died, the whole nation died. (After this, Eva was taken to England so she could recover and get her health back as well as stay there until things settled in her country again especially with knowing full-well she would more than likely work herself to death again trying to fix all of the problems that were soon to come.)
With Eva's death (and leaving of the country for her own safety and health reasons) was when the problems in the country really began to skyrocket. Juan Peron was ousted and exiled in a 'Liberating Revolution' military coup in 1955, jump-starting more protests, military coups, etc. With the ousting of Peron, Arturo Frondizi took over and was later ousted in 1962 by military coup. General Juan Carlos Onganía assumed power in 1965 and repressed many different political parties, not three years later In the Cordobazo popular protests of May 1969, thousands of citizens routed the army and police and took control of Córdoba for two days. From 1970-76, Civil conflict and terrorist attacks, principally by left-wing Montoneros and Ejército Revolucionario del Pueblo, though the paramilitary Argentine Anticommunist Alliance tried to shut them down. In 1973, Juan Peron returned to Argentina from his exile in Spain thus leading to the Ezeiza massacre where the Argentine Anticommunist Alliance were waiting for him and fired into the crowd. With the death of Juan Peron not a year later, his second wife Isabel took over as president of the country. However in 1976, she was disposed as President by way of military coup.
Between 1976-1983, the Proceso de Reorganización Nacional led a state-sponsored period of violence later called the Dirty War in an effort to squash political and armed uprisings against Jorge Rafael Videla's military dictatorship as part of Operation Condor. It is said that over 30,000 people were tortured, disappeared, or were executed by the government during this period, many of them have never been found. Victims of the violence included several thousand left-wing activists, including trade unionists, students, journalists, Marxists and Peronists guerrillas and sympathizers. The violence continued until rule was given back to the civilians in 1983.
In 1978 as part of Operation Soberania when the Argentine government refused the binding Beagle Channel Arbitration, leading to a plan to invade Chile. In 1982, Leader General Leopoldo Galtieri sent troops to the Falkland Islands to start the Falkland Wars with the UK, lasting only 74 days with Argentine surrender of the territories. By the end of 1983, the military government collapsed with the election of Radical Raúl Alfonsín as president.
By 1984, things began to slowly get better. The Treaty of Peace and Friendship of 1984 between Chile and Argentina was signed, ending the border dispute for the Picton, Nueva, and Lennex islands. Between 1987-88, there were three revolts by military mutineers, Carapintada with all three being quickly quelled.
By 1989-1999, more political turmoil came about in the forms of protests, hunger protests, and political party realignments. In 1991, Argentina became the only Latin American country to take part in the Gulf War as well as Argentina, Brazil, and Chile signing the Mendoza Declaration to ban chemical warfare. Bill Clinton in 1998 designated Argentina as one of America's non-NATO allies.
In 2005, relations between Catholic Church and government tensed and broke because of disagreements over the issue of abortion as well as in 2007 with Catholic priest Christian Von Wernich being found guilty and given a life sentence for his involvement in the Dirty War.

February 9, 1944
Rushing was something Eva wasn't known for, as well as something she didn't like to do in the least. She liked to think through and plan her next move, plan possible courses of action. However with the current situation she was in, as well as time being of the pure essence, she knew the rush was a necessity. She had to move quickly with her puppet, she had him baited and caught...Now it was time to add the strings and become the puppeteer. Conditions were worsening, every day news of more political riots and issues of disagreeable political leaders filled the papers. Though she didn't need cold, unfeeling pieces of paper to tell her about all of the problems that she at the current moment couldn't solve. Despite the fact that she was 'in hiding,' it still didn't stop her from her daily walk around the city though an activity that once brought great pride now only broke her heart. Parts of Buenos Aires were mangled and Civil-War torn, it was her descamisados against the military. It was something she hoped to change, very soon.
Even as such, her plan was working. Even though the two had just met, already she had Colonel Perón right where she wanted him; wrapped around her finger to the point where she could get anything she asked of him. This situation was one of those times when it paid to be a woman, though old experiences and finding what worked and what didn't through trial and error over the course of many years had been over the past few years have become extremely helpful in her conquest.
Getting even closer to the Colonel quickly was almost an immediate necessity, get closer to him in turn meant getting closer to the military leaders working behind him as well as to truly find out what his plans were for her country. How did he expect to stop the conflicts? How did he expect to bring the people together? How did he expect to take care of her descamidados who were out of work, starving, lusting to be heard? All of these issues and more she strove to fix, she wasn't going to allow her country to be riot-ridden and broken any longer.
Hearing a loud knock at her front door, she glanced up from that day's paper with a quiet sigh. Removing the glasses from her face and setting them down on top of the paper to cover the bold headline, she pushed herself up from her seat on the couch before fixing the crinkles in her skirt. Walking toward the door and checking the peep-hole, she opened the door with a small smile and a slight tilt of her head as she began to speak in her own native tongue. It felt so strange to do so after so long, after all most of the time she only spoke in English.
"Buenas dias Juan, you have mail for me I take it?"
"Buenas dias Miss Eva, yes I do...Ma'am, if I may, I can't get over how different you look now. I will never understand why you did what you did to your hair, it doesn't suit you."[/i] She let out a quiet sigh and a simple nod, hand waving dismissively.
"Believe me, I know and trust me when I say that I didn't want to do this. You know why I did it Juan, I know I'll be moving soon just...Thought I would let you know."
"I figured as such ma'am...I want to be the first to tell you...Good luck."[/i] She gave the older gentleman a sad smile, holding out her hand as the man took it and gave it a firm shake. This man she had known since he was a boy, she watched him grow up on that very street into a wonderful man. She still didn't understand how he found out her secret, but he did soon after meeting her when he was a boy. She knew he knew a lot about her along with many of the neighborhood kids that she watched grow up, always coming to her for stories about when she was younger. Her more...Active days.
"Thank you old friend...I can at least promise you that very soon, things are going to change. You'll still see me around, I always come back to my haunts, you know that."
"I do...Goodbye Miss Eva, good luck."[/i] When the man turned and left, she closed the door behind her and turned the lock. Walking back toward the couch and flipping through the envelopes, she let out a sigh. Bills, Chile being a whiny little brat as he always has been, though at seeing the neat, yet still untidy scrawl that she hadn't seen in close to fifteen years she stopped dead in her tracks. She didn't expect to get a response back so quickly, let alone really one at all. Both he and Alfred had told her to go underground for her own safety, and honestly she didn't trust many to handle what goes in or out after what happened before. She actually thought that what happened would happen again and Arthur not get her letter.
Dropping the other letters on the coffee table as she walked, eyes never leaving the envelope. As though her body were moving on its own, she didn't realize she was in her office until the sound of a door creaking open and closing behind her as well as sitting down in her desk chair snapped her out of her trance. With a shaking head, she picked up a letter opener and cut the top seal. Setting down the tool, she took out the letter and began to read.
She honestly wasn't surprised by how bare it actually was, nor by him saying that he was incapable of worrying. He was just a natural worrier, though she had no room to talk since she was as well. So the war was finally turning, good...From the sounds of it as well as from the news she was getting, it should be over soon. She felt her brows fall as a small, yet sad smile crossed her lips at the last thing he said. He wasn't going anywhere and she knew how to reach him. She really, truly hoped that that promise can be upheld. If she is going to do what she needed to do...She would need that support, especially with what she knew she was getting herself into. She knew he wouldn't be happy with her decision, however...What choice did she have? She had to do something, this was the only possible route she could take.
Setting down the letter with a quiet sigh, she pulled a piece of stationary and a pen from one of the trays on her desk and began to write.
Arthur,
I am relieved to hear that the war is finally turning, hopefully it will come to a speedy end. All I ask is that you, and all of you, be careful. I still wish I could have been there to help, but with circumstances as they are I couldn't. I know you won't stop worrying, I don't expect you too. I can at least assure you that I'll be fine, I know where to turn too if things get bad.
I honestly expected you too criticize me some for my decision, though the fact that you're not is a little disappointing. No, in all seriousness, I know you don't like or support my decision. I don't like it any more than you do to be perfectly frank, but things are getting worse and I must move quicker than I really wanted too. I already have him wrapped around my finger, it will only be a matter of time before I can begin to get close to the other leaders.
Since I doubt I will get a response back from you in time to say this, Feliz Día de San Valentín. Left something in the envelope for you, something that I've been meaning to give you for a long time.
Te amo, ahora y siempre...Keep me informed.
Always,
----Evita Duarte
Setting down the pen and folding the letter without as much as a word, she stuffed it in the envelope with a frown. Reaching down and opening the top right door, she looked down as her fingers wrapped around a gold chain and pulled it from the wooden enclave. Dangling from the chain was a small gold cross, at the very least she thought she would get him another one since she never gave back the one she stole all those years ago though admitably still wears and never takes off. Looking at it for a second, she dropped it in the envelope and licked the seal before closing the flap.
Mechanically pushing herself up to her feet and leaving her office to move toward the front door, she unlocked the door and stuck the letter in her mailbox by the door where she knew it would be picked up that next day. Closing and locking the door again, her eyes closed as her forehead rested against the wood. It would seem as though she was going to be seeing the bottom of the glass several times tonight, after all...She knew where she was heading, at least for one night to try and forget before submerging back into the dark reality.
But every time it matters all my words desert me
So anyone can hurt me, and they do
